CHRISTMAS BOSS

4 reasons why you should put up your Christmas tree early

Do you wait until after Thanksgiving to decorate for the holidays? Or perhaps you wait until the final week of December to decorate your home for the holidays. Since “the sooner the better” has always been our motto when it comes to holiday decorating, we put up our Christmas tree and lights long before Thanksgiving dinner is even on the table. You may want to reevaluate this timing this year if you have any reservations: The practice of decking the halls for the holidays has been shown by scientists to increase feelings of joy. If you can get a head start, all the better.

Check out some of the reasons why it’s never too early to put up your Christmas tree:

It will increase the quality of respect and friendship you receive from your neighbors.

People’s perceptions of the occupants of a home were shown to be more positive and convivial when Christmas decorations were present, according to a recent study. It didn’t matter if the people living in the decorated homes actually talked to their neighbors or not; the general public viewed them as more “open” or approachable because of the decorations. It makes perfect sense; if everyone in the area decorates, you will feel like a part of the community if you do the same. Do not be bashful about hanging your Christmas wreaths this year, and you may even want to bring your neighbors some holiday treats early.

It might improve your mood.

It turns out there’s more to the “Christmas spirit” than spiked eggnog (though we won’t hold it against you if you break that out too). Several psychotherapists have observed that when people see Christmas decorations, they are often brought back to warm, fuzzy memories and anticipation from their childhood. Decorating the home can help bring back happy memories of a loved one who has passed away, even if those recollections are mingled with melancholy.

A Chill is Setting in (and Dark)

There’s no excuse not to break out the festive decorations as the temperature nears freezing in the early winter months. Now that you’ve dug out your scarves and sweaters, it’s time to get out the plaid blankets, pine-scented candles, and twinkly lights. We also believe that the best approach to combat the winter blues is to gather with friends and family around a warm fire, complete with stockings hung on the mantle.

Christmas Treats

Do I smell cookie dough? We know that Santa-shaped cookie jars ($40, Bed Bath & Beyond) aren’t exactly home decor, but we think that starting your holiday baking early is a great excuse to get it out of storage. The brightly colored snacks also serve as decorations. Holiday desserts are some of the best, but there’s no reason you can’t have them any other time of year. To get in the spirit of the season, whip up a batch of one or more of these sugary treats.
